This is the message you get when you ring my daughter on her phone and she even admitted she has been discouraged from contact with me but refused to say by whom and was afraid – she seemed afraid in terms of what she said “dont cause me trouble Mum”. However, noone should take it out on a patient just because they do not like the parent or because a parent quite rightly so has complained about some extremely serious incidents and facts which the CQC are supposed to be investigating. A complaint should be used in a constructive manner and not just dismissed which is something the NHS are good at doing. How is anything ever going to change for the better if nothing is done and more people should speak up in my opinion but I can see why they do not. It is extremely distressing to be treated like an outcast, a criminal and barred from so called aggressive behaviour and the way I have been treated is an absolute disgrace. For the most part you get nowhere with complaints as- there is no decent complaints system but this ward and its treatment of patients who are very vulnerable should be looked into and is a matter for the CQC – I have never seen anything so horrific like Fitzmary II ward in my life and was quite horrified. I horrified at reading “Re-challenging patients with blood dyscrasias and cardiovascular problems with Clozapine” I must ask Dr MacCabe what on earth is he doing challenging patients who are seriously ill – this is surely wrong and could result in death. This is just one of the reports and I am now so interested I have requested ALL of them. People think this is a world-wide renowned hospital. People think they are getting the most wonderful care but as one former patient said who has written to me amongst other patients describing their shocking care – “it was the worst mistake of my life”. Well I could not describe this better myself.
How come they moved my daughter so hastily miles away from the family giving virtually no notice to anyone. Now we cannot get her on the phone – this is not good at all. If there is a simple explanation that there is a problem with the phone then this should have been sorted out well before now.
You should not have all this song and dance about a visit when I can hardly pop down there to see my daughter every weekend now.
Anyway maybe something will be sorted out this week but it would appear that the consultant psychiatrist attached to this hospital Cambian Four Star Wards has already formed an opinion that is not good about me as a mother. If I am excluded from visiting my daughter then it would be this doctor that would end up being the focus of attention as I am very happy to be judged by the whole world as to my character. I can provide witnesses and references if things ended up in court and if I was of that character then I would certainly not have considered re-applying as a volunteer for the police.
I am so sorry for all the patients who do not get listened to or respected at all and now I am happy – I have found a wonderful advocate who truly understands and would be wholly representative of my daughter not like these groups such as Rethink who are domineered by the consultant psychiatrist. All I want as a mother is fair representation and I do not want a solicitor recommended by the hospital who is pally with the team.
It is ridiculous to have to go through more meetings and more decisions just for more recognition that this arrangement should continue as the replacement solicitor has already been agreed by my daughter and so has the advocate.
Any decisions between them and my daughter is nothing to do with me. They are the representatives as far as I am concerned and I am more than happy about this especially since the advocate as personal experience and knows how to communicate better than the entire team at the Maudsley.
Apart from the problems with her phone I cannot judge the Cambian Group to be fair but the psychiatrist HAS judged me without even meeting me and cut short my conversation on a few occasions and would not hear a bad word said about the Bethlem Royal Hospital which is nothing more than a research centre who get their funding from the drugs manufacturing companies to experiment on patients against their wishes.
Anyway enough of this as I want to see if I can get some tickets to the Olympics today. I missed out twice and was not happy about this. I wanted tickets for the swimming but now the athletics are on and I would like to see something of this. I have been to the Montreal OLympics before and this was fabulous and these games are right on my doorstep. I have not been to the Olympic Park but Elizabeth has – she went to see Preparing London basketball last year. All I have seen is the Olympic torch come down the road where I work. Someone I heard got some tickets by queuing for 2 hrs and got them for £5 – that would be nice as I have heard tickets are being virtually given away but I am not sure I will be lucky for the athletics.
It is such a shame Elizabeth was very good at running and even took part in a charity run. One of the guys involved in a special training project she went to for running was himself diagnosed with a serious condition but was such a remarkable man. Like certain members of Speak Out against Psychiatry, this man got better and took up running and was extremely good. Most people who have something positive to focus their minds on get well again like my younger daughter who likes acting. Anyway, he was an inspiration. It is people like this who should be involved in helping and encouraging others to get better as they are the inspiration and staff under the NHS sometimes are negative and do not do enough to encourage people who are MORE than capable to do things for themselves, find something good in life with support – find work etc etc. There needs to be more support in the community maybe one to one mentor to help people get back on their feet when they become disillusioned for being institutionalised in a system that is nothing but drug pushing and very little therapeutic care. It is precisely these people that could be involved in the running of Alternative Care Centres offering much kinder care such as Orthomolecular and that is not to say taking someone completely off drugs but these are fully trained psychiatrists who give the drugs as well as supplements in a proper manner – this is what should be in place at the Maudsley. Nutrition, diet, counselling, CBT exercise, relaxation – these things should be provided in specialist centres that offer individually tailored care per person with the aid of former patients who truly understand and can associated with what a person has gone through and ultimately that person would get better and not lose hope like under the current system which does not work at all.
